Five Killed in Deadly Highway 101 Crash in Spartanburg County

Authorities in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, have confirmed that five people were killed in a devastating two-vehicle head-on collision along Highway 101 South, leaving multiple families and communities in mourning. According to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office, the crash occurred early Friday morning and involved a Ford SUV and a Toyota SUV. Emergency responders arrived at the scene following reports of a severe collision, where multiple victims were pronounced dead due to the violent impact.

Victims Identified

Officials have identified three of the five victims:

• Deborah Sue Watkins Wyatt, 50, of Duncan — the driver of the Ford SUV, pronounced dead at the scene.

• Max Douglas Wyatt Jr., 46, of Duncan — a passenger in the Ford SUV, transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

• Ashley Munoz, 35, of Woodruff — a Greenville Police Department sergeant assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division, pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that all three occupants of the Toyota SUV also died in the crash. However, only one of those victims has been publicly identified so far, as officials continue notifying next of kin.

Investigation Ongoing

Investigators said the cause of the collision remains under active investigation. Authorities are reviewing crash reconstruction data, vehicle evidence, and other forensic findings to determine what led to the fatal impact.
