Brett Dixon, Melissa Cochran Dixon and Paul Dixon Suicide, Found Dead: Three Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide in Elizabeth, Indiana Home
Sheriff’s deputies in southern Indiana are investigating a tragic case after three people were found dead Wednesday evening inside a home in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide.
According to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called shortly before 7:30 p.m. to a residence on Greenbrier Road SE in Elizabeth, Indiana, for a welfare check involving a suicidal male, requested by a family member.
When deputies arrived, they discovered 36-year-old Brett Dixon deceased on the front porch with two gunshot wounds. Inside the home, officers located 59-year-old Melissa Cochran Dixon and 61-year-old Paul Dixon, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Paul Dixon was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Based on evidence at the scene, investigators believe Paul Dixon shot both Melissa Cochran Dixon and Brett Dixon before taking his own life. Authorities confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Sheriff Nick Smith described the incident as a “tragic loss,” extending condolences to the family, extended relatives, and friends of those affected.
Autopsies have been scheduled for all three individuals as the investigation continues. Officials have not released further details regarding their relationships, and the case remains under active investigation.
