91 Freeway Accident Today, Multiple Crashes Cause Heavy Traffic Delays Across Southern California

Drivers across Southern California experienced major traffic disruptions Thursday following multiple accidents reported along the 91 Freeway, one of the region’s busiest commuter corridors connecting Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside counties.

Authorities and traffic officials responded to several incidents throughout the day, including crashes involving semi-trucks, overturned vehicles, and multi-car collisions that led to lane closures and significant delays for commuters traveling through Anaheim, Corona, Cerritos, and surrounding areas.

One of the most serious recent incidents on the 91 Freeway occurred near Anaheim, where an overturned big rig reportedly crushed a sedan after the truck lost control and overturned near Brookhurst Street. Emergency crews rushed to the scene shortly after the collision was reported during evening traffic hours. According to officials, the container being hauled by the truck landed partially on top of the passenger vehicle. Remarkably, the occupants of the car survived and were able to escape through the passenger side before first responders arrived. All involved parties were transported to local hospitals with injuries that were not immediately believed to be life-threatening.

In another recent crash affecting westbound lanes near Cerritos, an overturned semi-truck shut down multiple lanes of the freeway during the early morning commute. Traffic backed up for miles as crews worked to remove the truck and clear debris from the roadway. California Highway Patrol officers diverted traffic while recovery crews unloaded cargo and reopened lanes throughout the morning.

Officials have also investigated crashes involving wrong-way drivers and chain-reaction collisions on the Riverside Freeway portion of State Route 91. One fatal collision in Corona earlier this spring involved several vehicles after a wrong-way motorist allegedly entered the freeway in the wrong direction, causing a devastating crash that left at least one person dead and others injured.

The 91 Freeway, formally known as California State Route 91, is considered one of the most heavily traveled and congested highways in Southern California. Stretching through Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside counties, the freeway serves as a key commuter route for thousands of drivers each day. Heavy traffic volume, ongoing construction projects, and frequent commercial truck activity often contribute to major delays when accidents occur.

Transportation officials continue urging motorists to drive cautiously, especially during peak commuting hours and in construction zones. Drivers are also reminded to reduce speed during adverse conditions and remain alert for sudden traffic slowdowns.

As investigations into Thursday’s incidents continue, commuters are encouraged to monitor live traffic updates and allow extra travel time while crews complete roadway cleanup and accident investigations. Additional details regarding injuries or possible causes of the crashes may be released by authorities as information becomes available.
