The Fort Worth music community is mourning the death of local rapper and musician 88Dub, who was killed during an officer-involved shooting early Saturday morning, according to the Fort Worth Police Department. Authorities said the events began around 4:15 a.m. on May 16, 2026, while officers were securing the scene of a previous officer-involved shooting in the 4200 block of Wiman Drive. Investigators reported that a white SUV repeatedly drove past the location at high speeds, raising concerns among officers stationed near patrol vehicles. Police allege that the driver appeared to be intentionally targeting officers positioned in the area.
According to officials, officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly refused to pull over, leading to a pursuit that lasted approximately 15 minutes through parts of Fort Worth. The chase eventually came to an end after officers used a Precision Immobilization Technique, commonly referred to as a PIT maneuver, to stop the vehicle.
Police stated that officers approached the SUV with weapons drawn and issued repeated verbal commands to the driver. Investigators allege that the suspect refused to comply and attempted to disarm one of the officers by grabbing the officer’s handgun. Multiple officers then discharged their weapons, striking the driver, later identified by community members and supporters as 88Dub.
